Just want to add to this info. The Standard has a narrower frame then the Fatboy. If the letters are FX, then it is a narrow frame; FL is the wider frame. I'm not trying to be nit-picky, but if your shopping for parts this helps, so that you don't end up doing things like covering the oil dipstick with that new seat your going to put on. And trust me, you will put a new seat on....

Frames are the same FL and FX denotes the front forks. If there is a difference between frames is because of a model year change throughout the Softail line. the bodywork is interchangable (less the Carb/EFI gas tanks) I had no problem attaching a FLSTF rear fender just kept is from the same year.

That was my understanding as well. Someone here has a fatboy with a bobbed FXST rear fender.
