Just finished putting braided brake lines , front and rear , clutch and throttle cables on my Deuce . Looks a lot better now for under $300 , got my parts at 20% off from Chicago HD . Not a tough job although it took a while because of having to remove gas tank , loosen exhaust , etc. plus the front brake gave me fits trying to bleed it . Total time , about 6 hrs , taking my time . Anyone have any idea of what the stealer woulg charge for that work ? Know I saved a bundle !
To those who have trouble bleeding their front brake I stumbled on the cure , at least for me . They manual say to squeeze the handle a few times to release air trapped in the master cylinder (M/C) , well theres lots of air in there , a whole lines worth ! The M/C will not force anything out with any air in the M/C . Tap the brake lever vertically with your fingers . It may take 10 minutes or so but eventually all bubbles will work there way up and out and you will finally feel some resistance and then you can bleed the brakes as any other . Not sure why the rear bleed so easily and the front did not , I suspect it is because the front line is vericle for most part as compared to the rear which is horizontal .
Dan,
Another, perhaps quicker, trick is to use a clean oil squirt can and a piece of tubing and fill the system from the bottom up. An ol fart showed me this trick years ago on an ironhead and it works sweeeeet!!
