I did some work on mine a couple of weeks ago and noticed HD uses this white thread compound on many of the screws attaching parts to the frame. I am guessing it is some form of thread locker but I would have expected it to be blue or red if the case. It certainly contributed to some extra leverage needed to remove them. Is that what this is?
yea when HD did my 1K service, i had white fingerprints all over the black denim primary cover..and they couldnt get it off, even after complaining on 2 diff occasions and saying "we didnt put it on there"..then i couldnt get it off...used like 3-4 different type materials and gave up...then, out of the blue one day, i mention it to my step mother who was cleaning the house, used SIMPLE GREEN came right off...
also, there is stuff called AWESOME, sold like a cheap stores too for like a (i.e. Big Lots)1.00....i have a family member that rebuilds custom Mustangs (sold one to J. Leno) and they use that for everything and doesnt cause damage to paint. I have been using that for small stuff.
Yes I thought it was a thread locker, just have never seen it in white. Thanks.
I have also read several posts about folks stripping the torx screws when removing them. Sounds like for the most part it is a sh*tty set of tools. I only use craftsman and have never had a problem.
