After breaking my foot racing motorcross in my younger yrs it's much more comfortable using the heel shift.

Took mine off, one shift option is all I needed, would rather have the foot room. On my last trip which was 600 miles one way I found I could slide back and sit between the two seats but needed the foot room to slide my feet back. I also found I could sit on the passenger pillion with my feet on the rear pegs for short spells. Kind of nice to move around on 10 or 12 hour rides.

Buy a extended shifter and lower it to board height....you won't have to raise your heel very much. Once you use it i think you will never do without one......

This is my first bike with a heel shifter. It did take a little getting used to, and I thought it was sorta gay at first, but am liking it more now. After reading this thread, I guess my size 9 is part of the reason I don't seem to be annoyed by it, and the other part is I'm realizing that I seldom have my feet FLAT on the floorboards- it's usually my heel resting, and my toes seem to be c0cked outward. Since I ride my bike to/from work pretty regularly, I'm liking the fact that my left dress shoes don't get marred on top from shifting also.

I had a 93 lowrider and used to upshift with the rear of my boot. I also braked with my heel, using the highway pegs most of the time.

Anyway, if and when you adjust the rear shift lever, keep in mind that it does nered some room to make the shift. Kind of sucks when you adjust it, then go riding, and it doesn't always complete the shift.
