Default Stock lenght of a spriner front end

Anybody know what it is from the top of the lower tree to the center of the axle? From what i have been reading it is supposed to be 22" so my thinking is going with a 2" under and avoid having to get a lowering kit sounds logical what do you all think?

Not sure what you're trying to do. But your screen name suggests you own an 07 Standard, which I can be wrong about, but I'll assume it anyway.

Next.. it seems like you want to put a springer front end on it.

Oh, and there is no such thing as a "lowering kit" that I know of, for a spring front end. You just have to order it the size you need... unless you want to get into some complicated custom modifications by a professional fabricator.

You're correct in your desires to go 2" under, however. If you notice stock Harleys, like the Cross Bones, Heritage Springer, Bad Boy, etc, the forks seem just a wee bit too long, depending on the eye of the beholder, of course.

Harley does this to maintain maximum lean angles for a production bike, and maintain a specified rake/trail ratio for stability.

However, if you're like me, maybe you'd prefer a slightly more lower, vintage look, with the bottom frame rails almost level with the ground, and the front wheel "tucked in" slightly more.

Well, I'm doing exactly that, with my 1994 Harley Softail Custom.

Next.. different companies, manufacturerers, and vendors, describe their springers with measurements taken from different locations. ***This is very important***.

Paughco, I know for a fact, describes their product by measuring from the bottom of the rear fork of the springer where the rocker is attached, to the top clamp.

The vendors for the chinese versions, such as DNA and others, use the axle to bottom cup of the neck measurement.

After much debate, measurements, and thinking about it, I went with a 27" Tapered Oval Leg Wide Shock Springer by Paughco, (with some of the elements powdercoated black, some chromed). I also chose to omit the fender mounting tabs, and had the bung for the caliper drilled on the left side. (I want my brakes set up on the left). I also ordered a PM caliper and bracket for left side fitment.

(Aww hell.. let me just run out to the garage and take some quick measurements and pictures for you.. ok.. I'm back.)

OK. Here's the deal.

Stock Harley FXST Wide Glide front end: Measurement from Center of Axle to bottom of Neck cup, approximately 25 inches.

Paughco '27' Springer front end: Measurement from bottom of rear fork rocker to Neck cup, approximately 18 inches.

Paughco '27' Springer front end: Measurement from bottom of rear fork rocker to Top Clamp, exactly 27 inches, as expected. That's how they market their product and measurements.

My bike is currently mocked up with my 21" wheel, but I'm changing that to a 16" 'fat' wheel up front in a few days. With rubber on wheels, their diameters are about 1.5" difference, so that will lower me in the front about 3/4" more, making my frame rails perfectly level, by my calculations, which is what I'm trying to achieve.

No problem. If I could save someone half the time I spent trying to figure it all out, it's well worth it.

Just a tip, though... I personally would stay away from those "discount" springers you see on ebay, etc. My personal endorsement is for Paughco.. they're a good, reputable company with a long history of making springer front ends right here in the USA. A lot more expensive, but worth it. The quality is top-notch, and they'll build it to your specs, and finishes, if you want.
