Generally, raked trees are used to reduce the trail when a frame has been raked. If you use 'em on an unraked frame you might end up with too little trail and that can mean disaster. Do a search on here for raked trees, trail, etc. and you'll find more info.
I'm aware of what raked trees do and I've installed 6 deg trees on a few of my friends bikes and they handle fine. I'm curious how they would look on my Fatboy. The HHI's are only 4 deg. and I doubt they will have a negative effect on handling. If anyone has any pics they would be greatly appreciated.
Good idea. I'll strip the bike down to the bare frame, send it to a frame builder (I don't have a jig and I'm sure you don't either) then a painter, then reassemble it and be off the road for a month. Or I could spend $400 and swap trees in an hour and a half. Raked trees are not bogus. If I didn't use them on my ground up custom, 5 up 5 out 42 deg. neck, 12 over tubes, and 6 DEGREE TREES, it wouldn't be rideable. The myth that raked trees are bad is over. Every builder in the country uses them. But thanks for the great idea.
As a matter of fact..i have a jig..and have raked many frames for many bikes...but you go right ahead and re-write the rules Skipper..and when your front end cracks..dont gome snivelin here.Ohhh..and make sure you add 6 or 7 flaming skulls while your at it..
Sorry for the hostility triple8, I had surgery on Fri. and I wont be riding for a month. These Vicodins are making me drowsy..... I stand corrected about the jig. What are the odds that I would say that to someone who actually has a jig. Wish I had one. I saw in your gallery your roller... looks like raked trees to me. And you're a man after my own heart with the engine in the living room. I built my custom in my living room. Ironically, I was trying to lift another bike in my living room last week and snapped a tendon in my arm... hence the surgery. I must be getting old. Vicodins also make me ramble... so I'll stop.
