Question Lowering a 2005 Fat boy with lowering kit or Progressive shocks

Looking to lower my bike. I just bought it, once i am lowering it, it there a substantial improvement in handling using the new progressive shocks versus the lowering kit. I know i just changed the shocks on my sporty and there was a huge improvement. Any insight is appreciated. thanks Ted

the ride is better for sure, I just got a set but snow here so it will be awhile till I get the chance to try it. Go with the shocks, unless the funds arent there

Get some used Deluxe or screaming eagle Fatboy shocks if you are on a budget. They lower the rear one inch. Just enough to make the bike look good yet not ruin the ride. I got a pair for $70 with only 300 miles on them. They are a gas filled quality shock, $300 new from HD.

My sig pic does not have the shocks installed...

If you can afford it go with the Progressive 422 , a much better shock than the stock HDs. IMO my ride and handling are improved with them. Phatperformance has them for about $ 370.00

Thumbs up

Forget the lowering kit, and do it right by using the harley low profile shocks or the progressive. Either way you cant go wrong, i got about a 2" drop at rear with harley low profile. I believe you can get lower with the progressive, they have more room for adjustment. As far as handling, the fatboy never has and never will be known as a great handling bike. To big and bulky, i should know, I own a 04 fatty. From what i hear the dyna is the best handling bike, and this probably has a lot to do with the size of the front wheel. Buy the way, never go the cheap route ( i.e. lowering kit) on your own bike. Do it right, theres always a price to pay. If money is an issue, just wait till you have enough. Thats my motto. good luck
