Default Anyone ever....

Anyone ever put ape hangers on there ride and just hated them after they did it? I have been thinking of puting them on my flstc but don't want to make an expensive mistake and have to change them back. I love the looks but don't know if I would be comfortable and be able to maintain control as well. The local deal has a used road king with 14" apes on it they said I could ride around but temps been around 0 here for a couple weeks and about 3 inches of snow on the ground so I haven't been able to do it.

Once you go ape you'll never go back. They are very comfortable. Ride the RK when it get's warm enough and you will see. As far as handling, i find it easier to handle a bike with apes now that I am extremely used to them.

i have had only apes, 16" with 4" risers. they will make my hands go to sleep and i have sat on other bikes, with normal handle bars, and right away i can see, and feel, how comfortable they are, but thats what i have always had so im kinda of use to them. some people they dont bother at all and others hate them. if there was anyway you could make sure before you do it that would be smart. after all youll have to change all your cables and wires, good time to run them through the bars, and thats not cheap.Anyone ever....-dscf0376.jpg

You kinda have to take the chance I think. I too was worried about putting 18" apes on, but I love them now. It took about 30 minutes to get used to them. The handling seems more responsive due to the leverage you have, but at least with the taller apes, I think low speed handling suffers; by low speed I mean 5 or 10 MPH. It is a little more squirrely when coming to a stop, but just a little. Really not a problem at all, and to me the are more comfortable when cruising. High winds are a bit tougher.
If you don't like 'em, you can sell 'em.

I don't have apes on either of my scoots and I'm not inclined to try them. Simple logic (and gravity) tells me the blood is going to drain from my arms and hands which i would think will make your arms and hands colder in cool weather and more tired and prone to falling asleep in any weather. Hold your arms up like you would in holding apes for awhile. That doesn't feel good to me. They look cool and are probably great for bar hopping. Can't see them for the long haul. Just my opinion.
