I have been looking for a rider backrest for my softail. I happened on this one when checking out the member albums. Does anyone know if this is a manufactured part or an owner custom made. The softail seat is really comfortable but a backrest would be nice. Thanks for the help.
I don't know about the one in the pix, but I got one for my FXSTC from Kuryakyn. works like a dream. very adjustable, and now I can ride all day with no lower back soreness.
I can actually handle the bike much better, sitting in a supported position. I use it on longer rides. It's a loop design that mounts onto the struts on each side. very strong, all chrome. a high quality piece.
it's pricey, about $300, and does nothing to improve the look of the Custom, trust me(kind of gawky looking on the bike). But, it pops off in 2 seconds if I want to ride around town, cruising...
function over form I suppose....sorry I don't have a pix, but they have some good ones on their web site....

looking at he picture i would say its home made. i also have the kuryakyn backrest and would agree it works well but doesnt look good. by the way in that picture, the highway bar is that the HD one? it says in the book it will not fit the custom, does anyone know if it will?

Same here I was getting a little sore after a couple of hours on the bike but no more
I too am looking for one of these. I emailed Firehouse a few days ago and they said they do not have one for the Custom because they have not yet found a bike locally to make a template from. So, if anybody knows of a Custom near Grand Island, Nebraska...
Hey all thanks for the great posts. I will look into the Kuryakyn. i haven't had many problems with the lower back except on the longer runs too. I appreciate all the responses.
