I started this little project around midnight and have accomplished the easiest tasks (removal of front and rear fenders). Im hoping to make the rear turn signal wiring (quick release) in order to make swapping tins in the future a bit easier (anybody done this??). Hopefully I wont scratch the new rear fender during install; I find it hard to maneuver when the two fender struts and fender remain intact.

Ill update "after shots" when finished .should be interesting as Ive never removed and installed a tank before. Im also going to take the opportunity to change my rocker cover gaskets (rear is seeping) and hardware. Should look **** when complete.
man those tins are killa! can't wait to see pics. you planning on having a couple of different looks or what. i have thought about it. i've got 2 bikes so while one is down i could be riding my other. expense has kept me from doing having additional tins.
Yea it's an 01 and fuel injected, thus the FI tank. So far I got the tank off, replaced the rocker box cover gaskets, hardware, and the front cover (tank left scratches, see below, during removal due to the angle of my handle bars). I'm going to try to tackle the transfer of the fuel pump, electronics.....etc from the black tank to the blue flamed one tomorrow. It looks a little tough so I might take it to the stealer if I run out of talent. Thanks for the compliments.

man that ate that rocker box cover up. you can drops those bars in no time. looks to me like you got plenty of tallent. you got any painters tape. its cheap insurance.
Might prefit the bolts through any holes in the fender and tank too. When the tins are painted the bolt holes tend to layer up paint and if you try to force the bolts through it will chip off the paint.......in big chips! Use something to clear the excess paint from the holes after using Anubiss's advice and covering the hole areas with blue painters tape. If you ream too far and expose metal in the holes, get some clear touch up paint ( the little bottles with the tiny brush) from autozone or somewhere and cover up the exposed metal.
