Default Fender Extension Install (with pics)

I have been wanting to get rid of the black plastic mudguard for awhile, so I took advantage of having my bike on the lift this weekend to swap it out with the Polished Stainless Steel Fender Extension. The swap out is easy, they hardest part was getting my big hands in the tight spaces to turn the hex wrenches. And of course, the clamps and speednuts didn't always line up perfectly. All in all, I am very happy with the finished product and am glad I did it. It was cheap, about $45.00 for the kit, and took less than two hours. It's an hour job tops, but like I said, without removing the rear wheel, the spaces are tight.

Here goes:

Here is the before pic:

First, put the bike on the lift, and disconnect the battery cables per instructions.
Then, pull the old mudguard, only two bolts. This exposes all the electronics protected by the mudguard:

Then take the two nylon nuts and screw them on to the two terminals in the picture:

Next, take the two clamps from the kit and hook them around the top of the swingarm as shown:

Then slide the fender extension between the rear wheel and the swingarm. Attach the extension to the clamps at the top with the supplied cap head screws:

You then, do the same with the two bottom screws using the same speednuts used for the mudguard:

Lastly, make sure you have proper clearance for the belt and brake line:

I preshaped the fender extension on my leg to match the curve of the swingarm before inserting it.

Here is a view of the right side:

Like I said, this is not a major mod or anything, but definately gives it a different look and gets rid of the cheap looking plastic. Plus, I always wanted to see one before buying it, but I took one for the team so you can benefit from my experience.

You're turning into a chrome ***** too Warg.Check your brake line and make sure you've got clearance,it moves up and down with the swing arm. That would be a nasty suprize when you hit the brake and it wasn't there.Looks good.

Yeah, I checked should have plenty of clearance. It's not as close as the pic makes it look.

Saint, Dr. Greenthumb has one on his bike and he powdercoated it black. Just an idea.

I picked up from my local HD Dealer. $45 is probably too much for what it actually is, but what do you expect from Harley. However, I am pleased with the look.
