Default Rocker C Tank Panel Insert Installation

Need some help.

Purchased a flame tank panel insert like this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-F...1%7C240%3A1318

My dealer service said to use a heat gun to loosen the existing one and it will come off. The insert gets so hot I need gloves just to touch and try to move it a little to break the glue. I can't get it off. I don't want to pry it off because I could damage the chrome.

Has anyone done this? Do I need to heat the insert to the point where it pops off itself and if so how long should it take?

Thanks in advance for any instructions/advice.

i took mine off. i just used a really small flat head screw driver and started at the bottom and go it to pop up. from there i just pulled. the old one will bend so dont expect to reuse it, it will not happen.

Obviously he hasn't removed one.. You can do this at home.. Take a screw driver with a paper towel on the end and pry up just enough to get the insert to start peeling up.. Then pull.. It's aluminum so you won't be able to use it again.. Now peel the backing off of the new one just enough to start it... Put it in place and as you put it in slowly pull the back off as you press it in place.. You're done..

it was "off" by a 1/4 inch and looked bad on for 5 seconds

Any of you guys noticed if there was a protective clear coating on the decorated side of your inserts that needs to be peeled off? I just put one on & It almost looks like there is a light blue film covering that might need to be peeled off. i didn't notice it before I mounted mine.
