Default Tank Insert - Still !

I'm still trying to get that stupid tank / console insert off. They say just peel up the old one but this sucker isn't coming off. Even tried a heat gun. Surely these aren't that freaking hard to peel off are they? n Out to try some other stuff, I'm just trying hard mot to scratch or nick the chrome.

Puta little GOO-GONE around the edges first. Let it sit for minute, then use dental floss from top to bottom. Nice and easy, dont force it. Once it starts coming off at the the top, continue to put a little of the GOO-GONE on as you go down.

When I did mine I took it off the bike and did the removal and new install sitting at the dining room table. Once you get a blade or whatever under the edge somewhere it should peel off in one piece. Assuming you have the replacement you can see its just a thin piece of aluminum.

I finally got it. It must not have been factory glue. It was coming up in strips and peices. I ended heating it until the plastic was hot and sticky then finally got an edge up. Still wouldn't pull back so I heated the edges while pulling and it slowly released.

Kern,
Awesome paint. What color is that? Did you have it done or is that HD?

WD 40 will melt any glue without damage to the paint

It is HD Deep Cobalt. I put half a day into waxing and buffing that day I took that picture. It was crappy and cloudy out. You should see it in the sun. [8D]

I agree. The wax job makes the color pop so much. What wax did you use??? How many coats did you apply?
