Default trouble changing down gears

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

my 2007 fxst has trouble changing down gears sometimes.you sometimes have to shift down twice to get it to change down a gear.i take my hand of the clucth and foot of the gear lever and go to change down and the gear lever goes all the way down as if you have dropped it down a gear and you dont feel it change when you push the lever down but when you let the clutch out it is still in the same gear so when you change it again it will then drop into gear .it is not everytime but it does happen a fair bit

You might try to pull off the pedal to clean and re-grease the pivot point as well as the linkage rod ends.
The stock linkage rod has ends on it that are easily gummed up with crap. Good excuse to replace the rod with one that has hyme joints on the ends.
The shift pedals pivot point is notorious for getting gummed up and causing problems. Its not sealed in any way so pulling it off and cleaning it up with new grease can make a big difference in how things work and feel.
Changing the tranny oil for a better grade of synthetic is not a bad idea, but the odds are that your problem has more to do with your ability to easily move the shift lever then the trannys ability to do so.
As a last resort you might try adjusting the linkage to move the shifter peg up a little. That should make it easier for you to push the peg harder, farther.
