I've been thinking about putting the HD black flush caps on my FatBoy. Problem is my bike is an 02' Carbed model and HD says they only fit 04' and above on the carbed model, but 01' and above on the FI model.
Anyone have any idea why? Is it just for the low fuel light (don't think the 02' has that sensor). Really like them - just don't want to drop the coin if I can't get them to work. If it is just a matter of the low fuel LED not working then I'm not too worried about it....
I have them on my bike and like the look but if I could do it over I would look at the Kuryakyn Gauge and Cap or just eliminate the gauge and go with the Drag Specialities Caps and use one for the fuel and one to eliminate the stock guage since it doesnt work most of the time anyway.
I have had the HD set on my bike for almost 1.5 years , the guage almost never reads correctly but the stock one did not either so not a big deal, but the gas caps have broken 2 times. The first time the dealer replaced it the second time I had to pay 65.00 for a replacment. Both times the same problem the bottom of the cap that makes it spring loaded pops out.
I put the kuryakyn gauge and fuel cap on my deuce before I got the HD flush gauge and cap.
the Kuryakyn gauge and cap didn't look like it belonged on the bike, plus you keed to use a special key tool to remove the gas cap on the kuryakyn..it just looked too cheap to me so I removed them and installed the HD flush gauge and cap.
I never had any problems with my flush mount LED gauge on my Deuce or my CVO Springer.
if your gauge is not accurate, it doesn't matter what fuel gauge you put on the bike, they will all be off..it's not the gauge...
it's the sending unit in the tank, it needs to be adjusted.

Any reason you would think that they wouldn't work on the earlier carbed models (like an '02)? How many wires did the guage have?
That doesn't make much sense to me either unless the fuel cap is a different size. If the tank is the same I can't imagine why they wouldn't work either.
