Just a correction here, you do NOT need to go to a dealer to keep you warranty intact. You have to go there to get work done under warranty, but you do not void your warranty by doing maintenance yourself or through a qualified mechanic. Just document everything.
Glad to know its not just me! There are suite a few dealers around my area in TX so next time I go in for parts I'm going to cruise out to the Denton location. Sucks because this dealer I'm working with is like 2 miles from my house ...oh well, nice excuse for a ride
...but I'll def be wrenching myself. Between the service manual and a couple of friends and a 12 pack ...anything is possible!!
Hey Bro, if I am not mistaken (which I ver well could be) the one in Carrollton and Denton are owned by the same person. If you go to one, it's like going to the other. Same pockets are getting filled.....same practices allowed...etc.

I guess I am lucky and that is why people from Dallas and El Paso drive here to the dealer to buy and get serviced. I have a dealer 20 miles from me but drive 42 miles to another dealer who has always treated me right. even met the owner too. was walking around and hanging in the lounge while people were getting thier bike serviced. did not tell us who was but asked our experience with the dealership and service.
And yes I do my own oil changes but let them do any safety related or warranty issues. never gave me any crap about my mods. http://www.cowboyharley.com/
There are good and bad ones and has to do with "attitude"; this either makes them good or bad. Dunno about them "just hiring entry level mechanics because they're cheaper" otherwise I'd have a job here in Phoenix! I think it's more "who-you-know-in-the-good-ole-Harley-boy-club" and "good" has nothing to do with it...
