I wish the dealers would take more responsibility in ensuring actual mileage. All they have to do is have the previous owner sign a paper to cover their ***. I'm sure that there is a better better paper trail or computer maintenance records that they can pull up for verification.
+1 with tk353, the speedo holds the odometer reading. The ECM may also hold the same, I believe all the new ones do. I just saw a bike forsale in the paper today, 2005 with 50 miles on it, was riden once I am thinking just home from the dealer
Truly amazing. I couldn't imagine doing something like that.

there is a better paper trail from the insurance co and the state inspection or motor vehicle dept. if it is one owner then you will have to rely on the harley dealer to pull the records
seems the 2007 stores the info in the speedometer and the 2004-2006 store in the ecm
Nope. 06 stores it in the Speedo. ANd I believe the 05 does also. I changed Speedo's on the wifes 06 Softail. Yesterday while working on the bike (electrical problem, I pluged in the old speedo for testing the repair and the milage came up as if I had never taken it of 2 years ago..
Harley will set a Speedo to whatever milage you want when you replace one. They do ask you to sign a paper certifying the milage is actual, but If I sell this older Speedo, you get one with only 2500 miles on it. Bike currently has 15K
in the u.s do they require user to show the miles every year when registering? the info could be on past rego papers thats how u could it if u were in aus lol might work there
Speedos can be changed and harley will match mileage to what you "say" is the mailage on bikke. Of course, they ship with letter stating it is a federal crime to sell a bike with altered mileage not consistant with actual mileage. That is why I got hot under the collar waiting for my speedo/tach upgrade almost 2 months. I gave mileage and bike sat while waiting for unit so mileage would be correct, but a crook could easily replace speedo with less miles and you'd never know unless he is as stupid as this guy sounds, an 05 with only 600km ?? I got a 2008 with 7500 but it was dealer verified.
