Default wires thru the handle bar questions

I bought a 1 1/4 beach bar for my 05 Fatboy and was wondering if the fuel tank has to come off to run the wires thru the bars.

I took the switches out of the housings but I dont see how these would fit thru the bar even if I took the metal brakets off of the switches.

I'm guessing the tank has to come off and the wires disconnected somewhere farther back but I'm hoping theres another way.

any help would be appreciated.

yup, there are connectors for each side located under the tank. thats where I did my splicing.

Yes there are connectors are under the tank on the side of frame.. Dont need to splice, remove each pin out of the connector housing. they should fit through the bars. I used windex to lube the wires and make it easier to run through the bars.. good luck

Yes, take the tank right off, you can kind of lift the tank and disconnect the wiring but taking it off makes things a lot easier. Just curious, do you use stock cables? I kind of like the beach bar setup.

I would remove the tank.... it makes for an easier job....
remove the pins from the connectors... and slide them on though.... I advise against using any type of lubricant.... I usually makes more of a mess than it's worth...
I usually take a string and tie it to a nut... before the bars are installed you can move the bars around and get the string though... then stagger them on the string...tape them up well and pull them through...

I removed my tank, standard warning I give everyone: disconnect the fuel line first or you buy a new one, you can slide it back, but it is easier to just remove it. I had to cut my signal wires because I could not get the pins to release. the other two plugs came a part pretty easy. I took pictures before I took them a part to remember what holes they went back in. There is a good thread somewhere with really good pictures on how to disassemble the plugs. If I were you I would move the signals to the forks instead of cutting the wires. look at my signature pic if you want to see how beachbars are going to look on your ride.
PM me if you want to call and ask anything specific before you start.

I am finishing up this same project tonight. You might get a way with sliding the tank back and leaving the crossover connected. I would atleast give it a shot before removing it completely. No harm in that.

I removed the tank but think I could have got away with just sliding it up or back.

I spliced mine, did a really clean job of it, it was a pain in the a$$ though getting the wires through the z bars, but loved the look. I really feel like a dumb$#it looking at this thread, i didnt know they had connectors under the tank. Guess I just figured that removing the tank was too much of a headache. I agree with cheesecake on the tying a nut to a string, it worked great, i had to pull 2 wires at a time though.

Oh and nice ride cheese, i didnt really like the XB too much at first but youve changed my mind!!!!!
