Default question on big city thunder install

I'm getting these baffles tomorrow for my v&H big radius pipes. I heard you have to mount them at least six inches forward in the pipe. I was gonna just use the existing holes instead of drilling farther forward. Has anyone done it this way? Any ill effects? If you did drill the holes farther forward did you have to remove the pipes to drill the hole on the rear side of the pipes like the oem ones or did you just drill the hole in the front face? Will the heat shield slide over the bolt head if you drill in the front face? Thanks.

I drilled new holes as specified in the instructions. I didn't have to remove my pipes for the install. Just remove the heat shields.

That's all easy stuff, getting the baffle out of the top (or was it bottom? can't remember now but it was one of them) was a major PITA. There are several threads on here that discusses that problem if you run into it.

I just used the existing holes for my softail. At first I had the washer towards the back. It sounded deeper, but popped quite a bit during normal deceleration. I turned them around so the washer was at the front and no more popping unless letting off from full throttle at 100mph or so. It is not as deep a tone as with the washer in the back, but still sounds awesome and runs great.

Just drill new holes in the face 5/16 i think heat shields will slide right over........and it's the top that are a pain in the A$$ !!!!!

Thanks guys. I already removed the stock baffles and your right. The top one sucked! I just wanted to be sure if I drilled the hole on the outer face of the pipe that the heatshield will slide over the screw holding in the new baffles. Can't wait till they get here tomorrow now!

let's see, it's gonna be hard to put it into words. I'll try my best.

With the stock baffles the pipes have a higher pitch to them. once you put the thunder monsters on the bike gets a low (muscle car type) rumble to it.

The best part is when you crack on the throttle and release it to shift gears, the pipes make a deep growling noise. The best way to describe the sound is this, it kinda sounds like a souped up mustang.

it definitely makes the engine sound bigger then what it actually is.

It's the best $80 i've spent on my bike.
