Default Idol Cable on 04 Fatboy

Need Help !
I'm currently getting 16in apes installed on my bike, but we cannot find the correct idol cable. I'm wanting to ride this weekend and I'm wodering if it is possible to ride without the idol cable until it arrives?

The idle cable is a safety that was added to allow the throttle to force closed
If your return spring is strong enough to pull it shut I would think you would be OK.

Why don't you ride the bike this weekend? Install the ape when you get the cables, make sense to me.

Idle is a safety feature, so take that how you want, you;ll notice with out it the throttle still snaps back... yes?

I wouldn't do it or recommend it, but thats me.

+1 on the last guy. Ride with the current set up and insall the apes when you get the cable. (you have it in pieces already don't you...)

My idle cable broke at the begenning of last winter, I rode almost everyday until about 2 weeks ago with out it. (trying to get the dealer to warranty it), I finally broke down and paid for the new cable and installed it. I had NO PROBLEMS, just the throttle doesn't return to idle postion, You have to turn it back as well. The spring will return the carb or throttle body back

I've wondered about this as well. I don't really see the point of this cable as a safety feature. If the throttle cable broke during acceleration, what is the point of the idle cable? The throttle butterfly is spring loaded and will close automatically regardless of the idle cable. The only thing I see it will do is simply return the throttle grip back into idle position, so what's the big deal?

Design to protect you if the spring breaks, fairly common in the old days, give you a chance to shut it down with out blowing it up
