Default Help with scratched heat shield

My passenger foot peg scratched my Big Radius heat shield today. Any one know how much a new big radius heat shield would run me? I tried using Harley's chrome cleaner in the mean time and it helped a bit but didn't get all of it out. Is there a better way or product to removing scratches from chrome?

Order another one, I don't think there is any way to remove scratch on chrome, you might be able to polish it and make the scratch lighter, that's about it. Just be careful when you work around chrome, I almost screw up a few chrome by mistake.

Ooops......Did you say your passenger peg scratched it? How?

I didn't put any locktite on the bolt that holds the foot peg shaft to the frame. It must have vibrated loose and the chrome foot peg was resting on the heat shield. Doh!

Any idea how much a new heat shields gunna cost?

Once chrome is scratched, it is scratched. Paint it black, rechrome it, get a new one, or just learn to live with it.

Mine was scratched and dented during a trailer haul to Bike Week two years ago. Had to order a new Big Shots Staggered shield from V&H and if I recall it was almost $150. Costly lesson.

I like your thinking! But I still try to avoid it. Always forget to take my wedding ring off when working around it. As soon as I hear that first ding of the ring...It's gone. Almost lost the ring now several times!
