Made no difference.............
Ya, that's what I've been doing for the past couple of weeks. It's fine for trips that are one or two hours, but for the really long ones, it can be a little tiring when the speeds get up to around 125 to 130kph.
JR, Just Brainstorming. have you tried it with both a shield on your helmet and windshield on together?. seems like its the aerodynamics of the helmet not working with the shields wind deflections..I say this because without the helmet my head doesn't shake from side to side as it does with one on.
Have you tried a full face shielded helmet with the windshield?
Sorry the lowers didn't do the trick, last fall I did a search and read that it was the answer, now we know its not...
I looked at the new 09's Heritage's and could tell a difference in shield height. So I measured one and cut mine to the new height, (about 2 1/2 shorter) than my 07.
So I cut my shield down a strong 2 1/2 inches last winter and at 6'2" when I sit upright and looking over the top edge of the shield the line of plane is about 40 ft in front of the bike.
On the road when I lay back a little my eyes can be a little above or below the shield depending on my head position like nodding up and down..
When I cut the shield I can't really feel any difference as far as buffering, but that is still without a helmet. I agree that with one on its bad. My helmet is also a 3/4, and have never tried another kind
Its raining today but If it stops and the roads dry up I will put on my helmet and see what its doing now that I have cut the shield down and post the results for U
Just thought of another thing I tried last week, I put both feet on top of Motor guards with legs against the tank at 60mph to see if that help and it did cut the buffering quite a bit.

DOES ANYONE HAVE A FABOY WITH A WINDSHIELD THAT GIVES A COMFORTABLE RIDE WITH NO BUFFETING? I'M A LITTLE OVER 6'3" TALL.
JR. I just went for a 1/2 hr ride with my helmet on. My conclusion is that cutting the Windshield down did help. I wore my 3/4 helmet with the clear full shield and visor on it for 1/2 the ride, then removed them and rode with helmet only..
Now this is on my 07Heritage which has passing lights, that may make a little difference??
Speeds at up to 70, air flow normal but very little helmet side to side movement, a lot better than stock height!! I think I could ride with it and not get a headache. Signs could be read easy now, as before they were blurry.
This was with the shield and visor on the helmet. After removal of them and helmet only on return trip results were the same, so no difference on or off.
Still the biggest difference it when I put my feet on the Motor guard with my legs against the tank, my guess is at least 80% less buffering.
So maybe the lowers you put on isn't working, but I would say that the buffering is caused by the wind hitting our legs and coming up over the tank into our chest area. Add that to the negative pressure the windshield makes I think that is what caused the constant back and forth pressure put on our helmets
Next time you ride put your hand in a little above land in front of your knee near the tank and feel the air that comes up, it might surprise you.
Also if you have engine guards put your feet on top of them with legs against the tank and see if your results is the same as I got..
I cut my stock windshield to 18 inches, thats measured from the middle of the cut out for the headlight to the top of the shield..
Total Berth is 23 1/4 across the top chrome brace.
Distance from tip of my nose to top of windshield it 26 in.
and I'am nose level with top of windshield in normal riding position..

I have the Deluxe king size touring windshield on my Softail and get NO buffeting. You could also add the Harley chrome touring lowers...or whatever they are called. I have heard they reduce wind significantly.
