Default Made no difference.............

I was out in the garage tonight seriously considering selling my bike. I just spent another 100 bucks on the lowers from Memphis Shades to try and fix the "buffeting" problem. It's so bad I can't see while riding in my normal position. THEY MADE ZERO DIFFERENCE. I tried 3 different helmets, no difference. It's not coming from below, I tried the arm-across the chest trick, ZERO difference. All I want is a comfortable windshield that works. OH, and the lowers kit mounting procedure is horrible. The main windshield kit has a great mounting system. Here's my rant thread from last week.

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...ny-advice.html

DOES ANYONE HAVE A FABOY WITH A WINDSHIELD THAT GIVES A COMFORTABLE RIDE WITH NO BUFFETING? I'M A LITTLE OVER 6'3" TALL.

Does anyone want this Memphis Shades system? FREE!!!! You pay the shipping. I'm throwing it in the garbage otherwise. Over $400 in one week, for what? Garbage!... Thanks in advance for any help......

That's a helluva gamble - paying all that out on a whim! That wind's gotta come from somewhere, hasn't it? Let's try the logical approach..

When you ride without a screen, are you ok then?

How far away is your nose from the screen?

How much below your eye line is the top edge?

The nearer to your face the screen is, the less likliehood of 'dirty' air swirling around. Trouble is, H-D fixings are non-adjustable, so you're stumped.

Tape some hard plastic or thick card to the top of the screen & try several widths to see whether or not it makes a difference.

Try the same at the sides.

You may find a compromise at one point & this is where to aim for with a screen blade, which you'll probably have to get cut so don't bin your purchases as they may trade for a custom build if unmarked.

You may find you don't like what you've ended up with, in which case rip it all off & trade it for a Beemer.

Little adjustments are best & patience will get you there. Ranting wont..

PS - I'm not a real Reverend :-)

I have this one.

I don't have any problems with buffeting with it. I've seen the wind deflectors on some bikes, but don't feel that I need them, nor want them. I'm only 6' tall, so your hight might make a difference, but this one might be worth a try. If you were closer, I would let you ride mine before you dropped $400. Good luck with your search. Once you find the right fit for you, it will be worth it.

Now I dont feel so bad for hating the street glide I demoed...that thing was horrible. 25 miles and i couldnt even read a street sign.

Evidently a windscreen needs to be just right?

Whats it like without a screen? I like my no screen train more than the glide which rocked me face like a....Hurricane?

I feel for ya, hate to blow $$$ and not have it work out. I'm 6'2" and had a shield on my last bike, it was low and the wind funnelled right at my upper chest/collar. Pissed me off so much I took it off while looking for another sheild and never went back. I eat bugs, but the only time the wind pisses me off is at 75+ on my half helmet, so if I do a lot of freeway riding I put on the full face.

Agreed, same here. I wasn't prepared for that when I test rode the Street Glide. I had "tears-of-joy" running all over my face. LoL.

No buffeting with the Nostalgia windsheild on my Deluxe. It's a bit oversized, but it works for me. It should fit the Fatboy with the quick detach kit just fine.

I must be an idiot...I ride around with my ballcap on bassackwards and have a diet heavy in bugs and rocks.

Now that I think about it....Didnt you buy that bike during the winter JR and not really ride it first?

That sucks. I sincerely hope you find the answer Bro!!

I can understand your anger .. I had a new Street Glide, spent a thousand miles trying to get rid of the buffeting. Took it back to the dealer and came home with a new Softail Custom .... man, I love this bike.

The wind affects your eyelids when the wind hits. The only real way to remedy the situation is to duct tape your eyelids open. A large piece of duct tape applied to your forehead should suffice.
