I would be happy if the fuel light comes on with 1 gallon left, esp on F.I. models with no reserve. My night train got about 42 miles per gallon first fill up, no stage 1, all stock. That may improve as it breaks in.
I have an 05 Sreaming Eagle FatBoy. I Just got back from Laughlin. I have about 800 miles on the bike. I have been avg 40mpg. I ran it till it stumbled and put 5.06 gallons. Right to the bottom of the Fuel neck.
PS. My gauge has never worked. Reads full all the time. No low fuel light either. Going to have it checked out when I go in for the 1000 mile service. Also the red key light(Sec) stays on all the time. Great QC for a new 30K bike.
Yesterday, I rode a 200 mile circuit from my house. It consisted of some flat 70 to 80 mile speed, some 65 mile speed, up and down mountains at 40 or so and back home at 70. When I filled up part way through the trip, the bike took exactly 3 gallons and got 45mpg dead even. Not bad I think because I was riding fairly hard in some very steep mountains. It's fuel injected which I like very much.
I've also noticed more seat of the pants HP the last few hundred miles with around 4700 miles on the bike. I think it's still breaking itself in.
Common problem. Dealer can fix it. Took 'em two tries with mine, but it's worked great ever since. Still a good idea to keep and eye on the odometer. But hell, if a guage is there it oughta work properly.
