Hey, I'm a newbie to the forum, so don't beat me up too badly.
I have been without a Harley for many years now (I've owned three), but am finally at the point where I can afford to get one.

My problem is that I like the Rocker, but not the seat (and two up seat) and I also like the Softtail Custom, but not the wheels.
What I am trying to say is that there are things that I like and don't like about the two models and wish the engineers would blend the two together for the next coming year.

I hate the thought of buying a new bike and then turning around and throwing thousands of dollars into it to get to get the combination I want.
I hope this is making sense.
I just want to pick all the things I like off existing models (these two models)and pay a fair price.

This "problem" may have already been discused, but I couldn't find it anywhere.

Thats part of the fun, modding the bike to your liking and taste. But do not wait for the MOCO to do it for you, and plan on spending lotts of $$$.

Default Buy a used Harley!

But
You wrote it: Buy a new bike and then turn around and throw thousands of dollars into it to get to get the combination you want.
If you buy a use one you are shelling out a little less cash!
The Rocker C is very customized except Harley screwed up with the Driver seat + rear fender!

It depends on what your definition of a fair price is!!

but seriously lots of guys have gone with the heartland kit on their Rock... IMO it has a better looking seat....
but then you can also put different wheels on a Softail Custom....

the key is buying the bike that in your opinion needs the least... and go from there!

For the crossbones check out the Danny Gray seat. You are going to end up spending money modding it eventually anyway, Might as well figure out what you want now and order it all up when you buy the bike and be done with it...for a couple of weeks at least until you see something you like more.

+1 on the kit.

I'm not a fan of the Rocker, but the ones that have this kit have won me over. There's a few on here and that fender/seat combo completely change what's wrong with the Rocker.

Great, Thanks!
When I said "fair price" I guess what I am getting at is: let's suppose I bought the Softtail Custom; to get the Rocker Wheels (or something similar I should say) I'd have to shell out big bucks---and then I am left with two perfectly good wheels and tires that are worth some pretty bucks. It's driving me INSANE!

(Okay, maybe I was there already.)

And then to get the rake and trail similar to the Rocker.....well....here we go again.

Yeah, my dislike for the Rocker lies only in the seat/fender style. People suggest saddlebags for storage, but I just can't see covering up that beautiful rear end (pun maybe?)
I much prefer to strap my backpack on a sissybar and rack set-up and let folks (me included) admire those wheels.

Great thread. Before I bought my bike, I actually preferred the bobtail fender on the Dyna Fat Bob, and the handlebars too, but bought the Fat Boy with the intentions of changing the rear fender, bars, and seat. I have grown to love the stock rear fender, and did my pimpin'-out elsewhere. I love the results thus far. Most of us have thrown good-money after bad money to try and achieve our goals. It's a difficult pill to swallow sometimes. Best of luck, and make sure you post pics! JR

Work the dealer on wheels if your buying new get credit on the take offs and it won't hurt the wallet quite as much
