Default Buying a Fat Boy- need advice?

I'm a complete HD n00bie. See copy of details from this private seller below. Is this a good deal? Pardon my ignorance. I appreciate your patience/help in advance!

'91, approx 51k miles. Dude is asking about 9k.

quote
"

Ok, here goes.
bike has tons of chrome. Some of the upgrades and modifications are Mikuni
carb, upgraded to EV27 cam from stock. This bike runs strong, solid and is
more than reliable. The evo was and is the best around (my opinion but I'm
sure there are tons of others who agree.)
I paid 10,500 for thsi slick bike and probably put more than $12k into it
easily.
other upgrades include:
Lay down license plate
Screaming Eagle Hi-Flo Aircleaner
Screaming Eagle pushrods
T-bars 1-1/4"
All chrome handle controls and chrome braided lines.
flush pop-up gas caps
VH Big Radius Pipes (sounds increadible)
white walls on spoke rims
Kuryakyn grips with throttle boss (control throttle with your palm relaxed
ride)
Much more.
Bike has been taken very well care of.

I am looking to purchase a Fatboy as well, I am having difficulty going used this time, with HD reducing the cost of the Fatboy to 15,999, its a hellova deal. Then again, I love the 96", 6 Speed, and especially that Fat 200mm rear tire.

It looks like it is a decent deal to answer your question.

That's a sharp looking bike. However, it's 18 yrs. old and has 51K miles on it. 9K is too much IMHO. I would say 7500-8000 would be more in line. And also, do you want a Fatboy or a Deluxe? That bike looks far more like a deluxe than a FB......

Here's my 2 cents. Buying a bike that is 18 years old is one thing. But this bike is moderately modded and has 51K miles on it. They were probably not easy miles. People mod their bikes to run them hard. If I were you I would look for a 2000+ bike that is as close to stock as possible and then put your own mods on at your own pace. I agree he is asking about 1500 too much but all together I would look for a newer bike with fewer miles.

Thanks for the input, everyone!

Most of the stuff he's done to it I'd want to do myself, anyhow.

Again, pardon my ignorance, but what's the difference between a FB and deluxe?

I'm only looking to spend about 8-9k to begin with(all I can afford- I'm buying outright), and I loooooove the FB(but apparently don't know what one looks like? )

Do you currently have motorcycle experience or is this going to be your first bike?

I have experience. It's been a year or so since I've ridden, but I used to own a 90-something Honda(ugh) Shadow 600 for years.

Find a local Independet shop that can check it out for you....
ask if he has receipts for the mods and maintenance....

There is a lot more than Chrome and Loud Pipes when considering a bike....
