My dad has an 04 Heritage, carb bike with V&H pipe, stock A/C and wants more low end power, whats best bang for buck.

C&C is his next move.

Cams and Compression.

When you say V&H pipe are you saying he already has a 2-1 pipe or does he have "Pipes" plural.

Little bit of extra ummph in the midrange to be had from a 2-1 but they look out of sorts on a Heritage IMO.

TQ cams and bump that low *** stock compression. The old man will get his arms stretched a bit if done and tuned properly.

Phew...You could start a war with that question!!

It depends on what compression he plans on running and if he is gonna do any headwork.

If he just wants a drop in cam that will work without requiring additional modifications to the heads and if he wants to keep the bike at stock compression there are several good grinds out there that will give him a good boost.

Google up and then contact Andrews Cams and Woods. You may even call Headquarters as they have sweet stuff as well.

If he just wants to stick with HD stuff and leave his heads and compression stock do a set of 203 cams which will make more power in the low to mid or 204's which are gonna move that peak power into a higher RPM range.

These aftermarket guys are offering lots of bang for the buck with drop in cams so I wouldnt go getting all googly eyed with just HD cams. Look around. Make some calls. Yada'Yada.

Go to the Dynos for Softails section. Some good info to be gleaned there.

Before tearing into his motor, try a stage 1. There's a lot more umph to be had from that stock motor with just a freer flowing AC and some rejetting.

I know a lot of people never really look around in here, but at the top of page 1 here in this softails section is a STICKY tread.

Its called DYNO Numbers for Softails I and others have even posted their Dyno sheet so other can see the lines.

I started it just because of questions like yours, if U go through it, you will see what other have done and what they did to get what they got....

Yes there is some good information in that post and I thank you for starting it, but unfortunately there are not enough posts with dyno sheets. Saying something like 100TQ 100HP really means nothing unless you know at what rpm's those numbers occurred. That's just my thought.

Good call - how you normally ride and where you prefer the tq is key. Also, their are some bikes that are a bit over cammed and without a dyno sheet its hard to know. These bikes may reach a good peak number but the tq curve is not very linear and may have a dip that can not be tuned out. A bike with less peak tq could actually perform better. And then their is the reality that not all dyno's are the same. Variables like temp, humidity, altitude, the dyno equipment...
