Default heads for 106 kit need help

I want to know If anyone thinks If go with S&S 89cc performance heads and woods cams I can produce over 100hp/100tq. I was thinking of going with their heads because I'm concerned about high compression and pump gas quality. The S&S catalog says with those heads you get a compression of 9.7:1 I would like my bike to go from stop light to stop light. Any advise or recommendations I'm not a big tech guy and need help.

JR,

What mods does the motor have now?

Why spend a heap of loot on aftermarket heads when you already own a set that can easily be street ported and milled to easily achieve your 100/100 goal in tandem with a good set of cams, good exhuast and a good tune....

No point in spending yer' dough twice. Lots of power can be made on stock heads.

My little ol' 95" build makes 93/108 at 6000 feet above sea level. That means at sea-level my 95" with worked over stock heads, stock throttle body, cams and good exhuast would probably churn out in the range of 102/115.

I have right at 10:5-1 compression and run on cheap 91 octane pump gas without any issues.

No I take that back...I do have issues. The fvcker burns a tank of fuel in 120 miles of fvckin' around town and may get 150-170 per tank on the Hwy!!!

You dont need no fancy aftermarket heads. Who is going to be doing the motor work? Did they suggest this route? If so...Find a builder who is more tuned in with making strong power on a budget and is smart enough to send your heads out for a good street port if he isnt capable himself.

I just have stage 1 w/power commander and rinehart 2 into 1 exhaust. The only reason I was going to go w/ S&S heads was my concern with too high a compression. Also my price is about 1,100 for those heads. I don't have a mechanic that I've talk to mostly looking at builds here and the net. A old timer at work was going to give me a hand . He worked at a shop long ago and has a few evo bikes he works on. The other mods I was planing are S&S tuned induction,HPI 51mm tb,Thunder Max tuner and sending out crank & case to Dark Horse for timken and crank work.

Default hang on for a few

We are doing a 106 (S&S jugs on a 2008 Street Glide) motor for one of our HDF members. Within a week we should have all of the parts and finished motor running and tuned. We just ported, polished, put in correct valves & springs, on stock core heads used on a 2008 FL. If you can wait he will post the results himself. Your choice.

If money isnt an object or issue by all means go ahead with the S$S heads. But for a third of that $1,100.00 you could easily send those stock heads out to a reputable motor shop and within no time at all have them back ready to bolt on and make big power.

Lots of big indy shops around the country are skilled at working your stockers....Lots of bikes running around with well worked stock heads that are ferociously fast. If your goal is to make 100/100 you dont need to spend a crazy amount of money....But doing it on a lower compression build is understandable.

Either way you go you are heading the right direction by knowing that your stock crank is gonna need some attention as you make all this extra power as well!!!

Just a thought to consider...These guys do good work with quick turnaround time:http://www.bigboyzheadporting.com/showthread.php?p=17

I love me some S&S heads as much as the next guy but with the major performance potential of a well done twin cam stock head?

Seems like a waste of Moolah.

I must be a cheap *******!! I would buy aftermarket heads for an Evo...Wouldnt consider it on a Twinkie unless i was trying to some crazy $12,000 build 124" build that lays down the law at 130HP and 130TQ.

I'm actually really curious to see the dyno run sheets on the S&S heads.

I hope the OP follows through and shares the magic!!

You do not need aftermarket heads for any build. I'm running 10.8:1 with a 615 lift cam on the stock heads and my bike runs awsome. If I were going to go with aftermarket heads I wouldn't even be looking at S&S. I be making a call to R&R Cycles to order their supercast heads @ $1500.00/set. They are arguably best heads out there.

I think the OP has sold hisself on doing the S&S heads so he dosent have to send his out.

Damnned shame considering how good the TC heads can be.
