Default halfway through my Fat Boy upgrade...

Well tonite I replaced the stock air cleaner with a screamin eagle high performance air cleaner/breather, installed the Kuryakyn tail light and rear turn signal inserts, and pulled off the factory exhaust system.

Tomorrow night the V&H BSS and PC V go on.

Couple of questions at this point, this being my first time doing this kind of thing myself:

1. why do the old exhaust port gaskets I pulled out seem to have so much more mass than the ones I bought at the dealer this afternoon?
(see pic below) Did they give me the wrong ones, or do these expand in the heat or something?

2. service manual says to install new gaskets with the tapered side facing the pipes.
There is no tapered side on these new gaskets.

3. is there some kind of special tool they use to put on and take off the
bolts that hold the mufflers to the muffler support? Good lord those are a pain in the *** to turn. Theres about ZERO space to get some kind of tool in between the back of that bracket and the tire/fork/caliper/whatever
I could turn each one about 1/16 of a turn at a time. they werent even tight and it took me an hour to remove 6 bolts.

4. Does it made sense to install the PC V self tuning module 02 sensors into the new headers BEFORE bolting them in?
Those were pretty tough to get off cuz once again you have room to maybe turn a wrench 1/16 of a turn at a time.

Heres a side shot with the exhaust off...

Looks like the gave you the SE gaskets. Few guys on here said they leaked and they ended up putting the original style back on.

Sounds famillar... my socket ends of my wrenches are rachet style and bend so it was a little easier.

Yup makes sense to me. Thats what I did with my o2 sensors, get the on there while you have room to work.

Those are the SE gaskets. If you use them you will need to crank the exhuast bolts down a tad tighter than the manual calls for or they will in fact leak.

Dont ask how I know!!

I would definatly go with the same gaskets. I never had those leak.

make sure you torque those nuts on the exhaust.

They do not go on very tight. don't over tighten em

Read a article that said the SE's gasket were better cause the mass U see on the stock one causes a exhaust restriction, but I've read and a couple Wrenches I talked to said they are really hard to get a seal on, and don't like to use them...

Ya that wire mesh can get squished up in the flow of the exhaust, happens if you tighten it down to hard, have it seated incorrectly or damage it a little on install. I have installed my pipes twice. One reinstall of the stockers and one with my newer 2:1. I must have dones something wrong on my reinstall using the old style cause that mesh was clearly deformed and sticking out into the flow.

The 2:1 came with different gaskets from RB racing. I haven't had an issue with leaking from them.
