Default Rear wheel removal

I'm getting new sneakers for my Train. Just plain, stock tires.
I've dropped the front wheel several times, and the manual is spot on. And how tricky is that, anyway...

HOWEVER, the rear wheel removal steps, as outlined in The Book, aren't the best when they get to the brake issue. "Do this, do that, push the caliper forward until it clears, etc". But it DOES NOT CLEAR!

I found that if you just remove the caliper from the bracket (two 10mm 12pt bolts), you can remove the bracket and rest the caliper on the swing arm. And presto, the wheel rolls out.

Why didn't they just do it/write it that way? Is there something fixing to bite me? I don't think so, but I could be wrong.

Anybody else have fun with the caliper issue?

Yep, with the stock wheel, you really do have to hold your mouth right to get that thing off. Way too tight if you ask me.

Only pulled the rear wheel off a FatBoy and a Street Glide my caliper didn't seam to be the problem. Maybe they are differen't, I'll try pulling the caliper next time to see if its easier. Sounds like a good idea.

I usually leave the caliper on. Some of the mew ones come off better taking the calipers off. I leave my belt adjustment where it is at, just one less thing to line back up.

I do all that i can, but after braking my back 13 yrs ago and can't get down like I use to the $35 per axle my Indy charges for taking them off and back on it money well spent to me..
I'd be out of commission for a week
