I'm leaving for Sturges July 30 returning Aug 8th. I'm taking the SG because I need the bags but I know the FB would be way more fun on those roads. The RG is a great bike and it can carry my rain gear and leathers plus give me some room for stuff I purchase while there but its hard to leave that FB at home. I know you guys riding softails understand, thats why you're on softails. Just pure fun to ride. I'm thinking if I rant enough, maybe I'll give in and do what I know isn't practical, but might be more fun.

Go with the FB ... these trips are suppose to be an adventure, something you'll talk about for a long time. F the caddy, take the hot rod. You can always figure out a way to do it.... I bought the SG for comfort then traded it in on the Softail to get back to the basics and put the fun back into riding again. Best move I ever made ........

Why not order up some matching hardbags and a tourpak for the FB and have the best of both worlds. Maybe throw a detachable windshield on it as well. The softail I feel is actually a better long distance cruiser due to the fact it runs a counterbalanced engine that doesnt put as much vibration through the handlebars.
Have a great time Lucky, we are leaving on the 26th to head to Sturgis....my husband is riding his road king and i'm riding...my fat boy that i just got two weeks ago after tradin my sportster in! woo hoo
As much as I like my Train, I wish I had a SG to take!! I too am leaving on the 31st to head to Sturgis. It will be my 14th year, we rent the same house each year. It is about 5800 miles round trip riding from south Florida countin the ridin we do while there. Each year gets better, but the good ridin is after everybody leaves and there is not so much traffic. Just hope there is not so much rain this year, last year over 2000 miles of the ride was in the pouring rain, but the weather there was great!! Ride safe
