so nobody knows what that short whirring noise is?
If it's any consolation,my 2001 Low Rider (carb model) makes the same noise,allways has done.Choke out,petrol on,Turn the key,whirring noise,turn throttle 3-4 times,flip run switch,start button.Works every time from cold.From hot,open choke slightly,or open throttle slightly,2 twists of throttle.
Hope this helps.
I do'nt know what the whirring noise is either, but i would like to know.Sounds like a fuel pump.

I believe i've found out what it is.It is the Electronic Speedo calibrating itself. Watch the Speedo needle and you will see it move a couple of times then set itself to Zero.
My carbed bike hisses as well on startup. Speedo post sounds about right for that hiss.
One thing I find is that many of you on here worry way too much. A little hiss here, a little clank there. If it starts just ride. So it takes an extra second or too longer to start one day. So what, just ride it, it started. Engines break in, atmosphere can change, gas octane/quality can change. When it runs like crap, makes loud noises or doesn't run at all then be concerned. Easier to fix a problem when something just doesn't work at all.
Just ride and enjoy that machine my Brotha...
Mine starts and runs too after a few extra cranks sometimes...
