I am in the middle of putting a chrome front end on my wife's Deluxe. It's an 05.......not really a problem just something odd.
I am draining the fluid out of the fork legs and the oil in one side is clearly fresh hydraulic oil while the other side is black and stinky. I am thinking maybe they replaced a fork seal or something and one side has clean fluid and the other is old.
Will fork oil turn black and start to stink when it's old? I can't say that I honestly know.
Alright...got everything back together....simple enough to change. The dealer gave me the wrong seals though.....just a smidge too small. No amount of finessing could get them over the fork tubes.
I reused the old ones, which I HATE doing, but everything seems to be working ok. Took it for a short ride and all is fine. I'll clean it up and post some before and after pictures tomorrow. Best $200 bucks I've spent on appearance mods in a long time.
Mine was the same way when I did the chrome front end kit. I have ready in multiple places that the left side (brake side) generally gets very dark due to the heat of the brakes. From what I have been told this is normal.
