Default fork oil leaking--

06 SG 23k miles have fork oil leaking from the screw on the fork -- saw oil on the rim about a dime size -- checked the forks no oil on them -- I made an attempt to tighten the screw but it seems pretty tight -- suggestions

Stock forks or have recent lower chrome legs been installed?

Since it has 23k miles on it I'm guessing the oil hasn't been changed. Albeit HD says to change at 50k, it should be changed more like 25k so I suggest changing the oil and use new drain screws/washers if stock legs. If chrome or powder coat and it has chrome screws then I'd just get new crush washers.

I don't understand why manufacturers refuse to use standard NPT 1/16 plugs on the forks; even a short stainless steel (brake) bleeder screw would be welcome.

Those screws are in there very tight, you need a decent tool to break them loose or you will strip the heads. Maybe they are just not tight enough. But sounds like a bad crush washer. Do what Dog says, if they are tight, then at the very least you will need to replace the washers, a screw might be damaged too, so replace those also. You will lose your oil when you do that so just change you oil and get new hardware.

I think there would be more problems using those.

In case of a leak, fork screws with a 'Phillips' head#2 on a coarse thread have no Metric equivalent; only chewing gum works like a charm.

You can try tightening it with an impact driver:

You'll need one to get them off if they are tight.
