Do I need a windshield? No way! Do I need a sound system? Yeah! I found a detachable batwing fairing w/4 speakers audio system on local craigslist, it is off a 04 Roadking, the seller said it should fit the FL front end, does anyone know? It doesn't come with docking hardware so I have to make it work. Thanks!
The FLS (Softail) front forks are a couple of inches narrower than the FLH (Touring) so it probably will not fit wit out some modification. Im sure it can be made to work.
Actually, the FLH and FLST front ends are 1/4" different on the width with the softail being narrower. The big problem is the side mounting bolts which can be as much as 2" different as the spacing between the upper and lower triple trees varies quite a bit.
My fairing is off an older FLH and all I had to do to make it fit was adjust the spacer on the slip on mounting grommets and have a piece welded into the lower bracket leg to stretch it enough to hit both mounting grommets.
Take a look at who made the fairing... If its an aftermarket, call the dealer and see if they sell the brackets for your model bike. Could be simple as that... otherwise, fabrication works well too.
