I don't warm up my bike, pretty much start and go but I keep the rpm low and ride easy until oil temp hits 150f. A friend of mine beats the crap out even when the engine is cold, has replaced the valve cover gasket a couple of times on his 08, you figure.

I prefer to wait till I feel heat on the side of the jugs and the bike can idle without stalling or needing to crack the throttle...and then ride slow/easy the first few minutes. I give a little more time for the heat to transfer throughout the motor and for it to come to minimal running temps before introducing a significant load. I've always heard an engine is most vulnerable the first few minutes when the motor is cold and before the oil is fully distributed. Also, tolerances change and metals expand significantly with increased temp...I personally don't see the wisdom in loading up a cold engine.

A warm-up on internal combustion engines has been recommended since their inception. I cant imagine a Harley is mystically different from the lot. It's just physics... Don't some of the newer vehicles have ceramic-impregnated/lined cylinders (e.g. Japanese bike and cars)...their probably more forgiving in terms of warm-up...but that ain't a feature of Harley jugs that I know of.

I missed the clutch post. What's the issue with the clutch at warm-up? Clutch plates don't wear if the bike is running in 'neutral'...only when the clutch handle is depressed...and especially when 'feathering/riding the clutch'

It was a thread that asked if you held the clutch in to start your bike or not. It had nothing to do with warmup just made me wonder if they all pull the clutch in start and then sit on the bike for a minute or two. I put it in nuetral and start it from the side while I am getting ready
