Default Noise in hotter weather.

So far the scooter has 1200 miles on it, and loving every minute of it. But here lately, in the hotter weather, over 90, the bike sounds like its running very loud, and has a grinding type noise from the engine area that gets very loud as you drive the bike over 20 minutes. You can also hear the sound coming out of the pipes. It has really started to bother me. Any ideas, does anyone else have a 06 train or softail that does the same thing? Of course the dealer acts like they are deaf and states its normal. But just started doing it.

In hotter weather, the bike will sound more rattley. It is the oil getting hotter than usual. If you aren't already, I'd suggest you run a good full synthetic like Amsoil or Mobil One V-twin. It will help some.

What Oldgeezer said. There is a lot of machinery moving around in the 88B engine. Hot oil (thinned out) will not 'muffle' some of the noise as well as it would in cooler weather.

An oil cooler definitely helps with keeping the oil cooler too. I run to Phoenix, AZ alot (the in-law thing...[:'(]) and in the summer even at night the temps are pretty high. You get used to the clatter, mine gets pretty loud even over the pipes but then again when we run to Phx. we do a straight shot...6 hours...only gas and snacks so the bike doesn't get much chance to cool during the run. The oil cooler keeps the synthetic oil around 200 degrees. Without the cooler I found that I ran close to 240 degrees in the summer.

JACK HOW MUCH IS THE OIL COOLER, I WONDER IF IT WOULD HELP WITH THE MISSING/GURGLING NOISE.

I bit the bullet and bought from the dealership. Had a 20% discount coupon that I cashed in. Was around $350 before the discount. You can find aftermarket ones that are also very good.
