I ride a heritage, but get to ride a few baggers now and then.... i love my heritage am turning it into the bike i envisioned. i bought the bike when i was 28 becaused i thought i was to young for a bagger. if i was to make a purchase today i would by the touring bike. Long trip comfort, locking storage, tunes, cruise, all stuff that i can live without but stuff that makes life a little easier to enjoy..

If you like both get the Electraglide. Easy decision. I haven't found a touring bike I like better than my Heritage or I'd be riding one.

Ride solo about 60% of the time so time split is about 60/40, but that could change with a little more comfort then the dyna super glide, from what I hear 2up is ok on the heritage, except sometimes in cornering foot rest can drag pavement............

I have had my 2010 heritage for less then 2 weeks and have put on 600 miles.
I ride 2 up 40% of the time.
with myself at 300 lbs and the wife on the bike I have yet to bottom it out and it is still set to factory settings.
The shocks can be adjusted for a heavy load by setting the preload up.
I had an electraglide classic and I really enjoy riding the heritage much more.
Lighter, easier to handle and like you I dont take really long trips at this time due to kids at home.
I may ride on a saturday a couple hundred miles and on the gide I was worn out when I got off the bike.
if you are going to be doing alot of town riding, start, stop and such the gide is a heavy bike to handle doing this all the time, its more for getting out on the open road and going.
And Im short, 5'9" with a 30" inseam so it was a stretch to get my feet firmly on the ground even with the bike lowered, and there is no way I could lower the new touring bikes enough to be able to ride them, as they sit higher.

I think we ride about the same, had my dyna since April and just gettihg 1000 mi. town riding 2-lane few hundred miles, not a marathon ride, I;m 5'9 and fit the seat and feels good, not sure if I would need a up-grade seat for 2-up......so the wife is happy.

If you want her happy, and for that matter, if you want to be happy, spring for the Mustang wide solo w/ backrest for you and the oversized wifey seat and backrest pad. You'll both be glad you did..

06 FB, same suspension as heritage. Ride 50/50 1up/2up and have bottomed out only a couple times. Have thought about adjusting the shocks a bit, just have not got around to dong it cause its not a big deal and rarely happens. Also, spokes are classic and will remain so. Dont take my word for it. Search this site and you will find lots of custom spoked wheels being bought - both in chrome and black.

Ditto. If you go with the Heritage the pillion in particular with have to go. Since I rarely use mine anymore I opted for the 14". Otherwise I probably would've gone with the more narrow 11-12" one. Just from the looks perspective.

And you'll probably also want passenger floorboards which aren't cheap.

Both are great bikes for touring. Best thing is to take a test ride on each and decide. IMO the Heritage is the better looking bike, more nostalgic. I personally prefer to "ride in" the bike than on top. Heritage gets my vote. Yep, you sure can scrape the footboards on a Heritage. My dad does it on long sweeping curves for fun every now and then, looks really cool at night. I've done it a few times, it's scary the first time you do it.
