"Newbie here, just joined a few days ago. Have a 2009 Super glide, looking to move up and the dealer has a few 2009's left, says he will deal on. Thinking on a Heritage softail classic or and Electra glide standard, both vivid black. I like the Heritage but have heard 2 up riding sometimes bottoms out supension, any truth to that. About 50/50 split time on solo riding and 2 up riding, I like the Super glide for solo, but not that great for 2 up. Any suggestions......."
Our background, I am 59 5/6 yrs old, 6'2"-280, The wife is almost 58, 5'4"-120, I have a shattered L4 Vertabae and she has a messed up tail bone...

We have put almost 23k in 2 1/2 yrs on our Heritage and last summer We lost 1/2 of the riding season due to two deaths in the family...Here in Ind we only get about 4 good months and 3-4 cold months of riding.

When brand new she did bottom out a few times, but at the 1k service I had the wrench tighten up the shocks for our 400#'s total weight as we ride 2 up 95% of the time, and most of that is my 280#'s.
Since then the only time she'll hit bottom is on the worse of road conditons, mostly at RR tracks that are really bad....or a pot hole

If she didn't ride good for us and was giving us trouble (pain) on our daily 2-4 hrs ride, believe me I would have traded her in...Money would not have been an issue here.. I did get her the touring rear seat, and backrest. Also the floorboard are a must for her comfort.

With our back troubles a rough ride would show up rather quickly. The riding position of the bars are better than any other bike I've owned. She sit low and handles great in town and on the road...

I've read and talked to some who own both (SG and Hert) and some say the touring is better, some say they are close, and several have even said on trips they will take the Softy.

Most with only the Touring will say theirs will ride better.
The A motor does put out 3-5 more TQ & HP because there are no balancers and the exhaust pipes are bigger.

I dont thing the Heritage will ride better, but its not that much worse, Plus I love the looks of the Heritage over the baggers, "A BUNCH"...

Know its a bit long but I thing it will help Ya...

CSR. with the pretty little wife of Ur's sitting on Ur bike, I didn't notice what color it was.

Mine was born in Livingston and there is something about those southern gals...

Definetly fits me better, I just like the look better and with the pass seat addition, wife will be comfy, thanks for the input. BLACK is the color, I agree with your dad...................

Thanks for the advise, I'm 59 and 250, the ride should be ok.
Ride 2up not as much as you. 60% solo 40% 2up, just want to be comfy, have a dyna super glide now but not as much fun 2up. Got a "beer belly'" and need the comfy seat so my legs can touch the ground; like the looks and the black color..............

The 96B is smooth as silk. That combined with the old school look & smooth ride are a winning combination for me...IMHO, the Heritage wins hands down! JMHO though, & nope I'm not partial....Not one little bit. Ride em both again & go with your gut & to hell with everyone else's opinion. There's my 0.10 fwiw.

Heritage has got my vote, but I have never rode anything else, so...
I know the first time I sat in the seat I knew this was it! It fit me like a glove!

LOL, she's a good one, gorgeous and has the biggest heart and best outlook on life of any person I've ever met. Being around her has made me a better person. I'm a lucky, lucky man, and try to not let her forget how much I love and appreciate her.

To keep the thread "on topic", I bought a bike we could both be comfortable on. We gave up other hobbies to buy a bike, something we could do and enjoy together. The Heritage was our choice, and I think we made a good decision. For the riding we do, and for the solo riding I do, the Softail is perfect.

I still have a thing for Road Glides, and the new Denim Black '10 models haven't made the urge any easier. I don't like the bars or 2-into-1 exhaust, but that can be fixed. If I was to ever get a Touring bike, that's the one. But that's several years down the road when I'd be able to get one without having to give up the other.

My dad does it on long sweeping curves for fun every now and then, looks really cool at night. I've done it a few times, it's scary the first time you do it.
Wife and I ride 2 up about 75% of the time. Swapped my '08 Heritage passenger seat for the HD touring (14" v 12" wide) before we went to Sturgis this year. Best investment yet. Wider and firmer. Doesn't curve to mold to the fender like the old one. No more complaints from the back seat. We looked at passenger floorboards and test road a used bike with them AND the lareger pillion but she prefered the pegs. Says she feels more secure with her boot heel pushed into the pegs. Personal preference, I guess.
Floorboards scrape all the time on mountain road switchbacks (especially on uphill grades) or sharp right turns out of parking lots. If it bothers you slow down or turn wider if you can. After the first few times you get used to the horrible sound. It's a cruiser, not a cafe racer, so that goes with the territory.

i've had both. been on long rides with both. no complaints about either. i personally prefer the handling of the heritage. i put a sundowner seat on for the wife and she also loved both. the decision has to be yours. if it were me, i would go with the heritage
just my 2cents

I have never ridden an E-glide, so I can't comment on it. I do, however have an 06 Heritage Classic and love it. I do know that you sit IN a softail where you sit ON a touring bike. I have made several long trips on it, including riding it to Sturgis twice from Texas. I ride 2 up about half the time and like someone mentioned above, have bottomed out only a few times. Neither my gf or me are exactly small people.
