Default 21" or 18" and how?

Hey all,

I have a White 2006 Heritage lowered 1 inch in the rear and Id like to start moving towards some mods that I like...

Handling and ride quality is important to me though, so I was hoping that you could help steer me in the right direction...

I really like the look of the 21 inch skinny front wheels on the Heritages...is this a good or bad idea when it comes to handling? is the 18 inch front wheel better or worse & why? Will my stock brake setup work with a new rim and wheel up front?

Has anyone done either of these and regretted it for any reason?

Any help & advice would be great!

Thanks!

Runner,

Go with a 21x3 wheel. You'll get the taller look that you're after with a nice beefy foot print. The bigger tire will also fill in your fender quite nicely.

To answer your other question.... Should be a no hassel bolt on, mine was.

I have a 2006 Deluxe with the 21 x 3.50 front and 18 x 3.50 rear. You can see a pic in my album. I had the 18 / 18 set up for a while which is nice but I like the 21 front much better. You can use your stock fender with no problem at all.

If you're gonna go 21", I'd def. go with a 3.5" wide wheel, and a 120 tire. I have the stock 90 series front tire with the Metzeler tire and it performs admirably. I can't imagine how much better the 120 front tire would be !

Make sure you get a rim with the right axle size. No need to change your fender, either.

With the skinnier tire the bike will track more, but it's not bad and you get used to it pretty quick. I'm running a 2.15" front rim with a 90/90 on it, since it's the only size to get a whitewall in.

Im still running stock in the rear. IMO it doesn't look bad at all. With spokes that is. I've noticed that most of the guys with a 21" up front still have thier stockers in the rear.
