Pipes too loud!
Retro, let me clean it up some
I was trying to say that the V&H aren't "too" loud for me. My buddy rode my bike in the neighborhood and I rode his because we wanted to hear what others hear. on our bikes respectfully. It was amazing to me that most of what I hear when riding is "wind noise" while others hear the pipes.
My first Harley was a Softail Standard with V&H Big Shots Long - no baffles. I thought it sounded great, because the pipes were so far behind me, they weren't as noticeable to me when going down the road. Before the 95" upgrade, I loved the way my Heritage sounded, but if you haven't heard a 95" high compression Twin Cam with V&H Big Shots Staggered, you haven't heard loud! Everybody I ride with, including my husband, loves loud pipes. I get comments all the time from fellow riders about how loud my bike is (not about how good it sounds, although I think it sounds good, too). And my husband is actually embarrassed to ride my bike into town because it's so loud!

All in good fun, no harm intended if that's how you took it.
Just a thought, but those of you who are complaining of the noise - could it be because you are wearing full face helmets. I love the sound of my V&H Big Radius now that I have "calibrated" the baffles, but I can not ride far with my full face helmet without getting a headache. No problem at all with my half helmet.
