Default Springer Forks

Obviously you can tell that I am new to the forum and to the Harley world. I have a 2005 Night Train with a few things here and there. I am trying to plan my build wisely and do it right the first time. So even though I am no where close to making a purchase I want to start my research right now.

Anyways I love springer forks. I have heard not all springers are created equal. What brands are good? What brands should I stay away from? I have seen Paughco, DNA, Biker's Choice, Hardbody, and a few others. What makes one springer so much better than the other? Or is it one of those things that you buy because it must be better b/c it costs 10x more? Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks!

I have ridden a bike with the DNA fork...**** poor IMO.

The best way to describe a $500 El-Cheapo springer?

Here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiDDB...eature=related

I would say stick with the good high end stuff or maybe even find a take off harley piece. If you buy a cheapo you are essentially relegating your bike to around town short hops.....Hence Barhopper!!

If you do a springer get a good one.

High End = Close tolerances and correct geometry to actually work.

El-Cheapo = Well....It has the look gosh darnit!! Thats about all the cheapies have...The look.

I would do the OEM HD springer or maybe the new Paugco with the damper shock?

I hate to guess....I know the OEM HD unit works very well. Its also gonna set cha back over a grand for an old one on E-Bay. Nice OEM HD unit will be $1500ish used but pristine....

Thanks for the comps!

The Harley ones are hard to beat. The STS model and the Heritage Springer both use a chrome Harley springer. The cross bones has a black springer which is better than no springer but chrome is much nicer, imho. This is a 2000 STS I had.

I love the Springers; I initally wanted to buy a Springer but the Crossbones wasn't out at that time and I couldn't handle the $27+ price of the SE models.

Yup...I would want a Harley OEM unit if I had to choose....

I still havent figured out the odd rake built into the Harley springer tho? Its a couple degrees different from the rake in the standard wide glide fork....

I wonder if thats one of its secrets to working so well where others fail?

Thanks for everyone's input! I guess I will have to start saving my nickles and dimes up until I can afford a HD springer.

This is the look I am going for but obviously everything murdered out.

Man that is sexy muthafvcker Bro!

Here are a few good looks for a sprung train as well.

This one has an OEM HD Spring-Hair on it. Note how the fork dosent have the same built in rake as the wide glide fork...

And then this with what looks to be the el-cheapo DNA piece...Man that DNA looks good. Sadly it rides like ***. Note how it has the rake built in comparitively:

Springing is good...Look how happy this dude is with his!!! That Chit eating smile is worth a million bucks...Or at least the $1500 cost of a good OEM springer unit!! Needless to say when I rode an older softail with a DNA fork I did not have a smile like this Dude has...LOL!
