Guy's, I'm looking for a quick release windshield for my 08 FXSTC. I read somewhere that the HD model has buffeting problems (causing wind to come from under it and bounce you head around). Is this true?
What would you guys reccomend. I rode for 2 years with a windshield and my new Softail doesn't have one. Riding is much more comfortable with a windshield. Plus, all that wind makes my ears ring
I have the HD quick release windshield on my 2008 FXSTC. It does cause some buffeting issues, butI read a few tips on another HD forum that have reduced this issue a lot. Changing the tilt angle greatly reduces the amount of head buffeting, I extended the lower windshield about 3/4" forward of the original mounts (which tilts the top of the windshield back +/- 2"). This also makes the windshield angle very close to the front fork rake on the bike. I would think you can find other tips to reduce any problem associated with your Harley on this or other HD forums... Good luck & ride safe.
I have a FXST with the same bars as the custom. I had a HD detachable and the buffeting was so bad, I couldn't stand it. Then I got a 16" clear windvest and it is perfect.
did you get the 16 inch or 16 by 16? does it mount on handlebar or forks?
I believe the width is the same, just two different height options 14" and 16" and the shields have 2" inches of up/down adjustment.
My Windvest was actually given to me and it had the 14" shield on it at the time. I could feel the air flowing over the windshield and hitting the top of my helmet. I called windvest and they said I needed the 16" shield, I am 5'11". I got the 16" shield and it is almost like riding in my car.
It bolts on to the handlebars, and is made out of good stuff. I have been through some hellacious headwinds with it and was sure thankful it was up there deflecting the wind off me. It is funny to look at some of my fellow riders straining against the wind, I laugh at them. It makes a big difference in hot and cold weather too. One other thing is I can hear my pipes at 80 MPH just like I was standing next it.
