I would do the price comparisons between the HD stage 2 and the other similar aftermarket setups. It seems to me you get more for your money with the aftermarket stuff. One more you might look at with a 96" engine is Hemi design. They have a 103 kit that uses some HD parts if you want to stick with a little bit more HD stuff. Again though, I would compare prices for what you get. Some of the power gains you may see might come at the expense of gas mileage too.
Stock 96" is what..65-70hp?? So im guessin 90-100Hp is gonna be a big difference!!
Im not trying to build a drag bike or anything, but i dont wanna waste $400-$600 to gain 5hp..u know? Think the 103" stage II kit (want the cams dont care bought the slip-ons) and a tuner will do the Job!!
Are you referring to the Stage II SE kit? It won't get you to 90 hp. I made 82/102 with that kit, running a PCIII, and V&H Big Radius.
If youre on a budget and wanting a boost in performance install cams - 26's, 204's... pipes, high flow ac and fuel management - PC III / V, Thundermax... This will get you 95-100 tq depending on a tune or PC canned map. Despite the rhyme "no replacement for displacement", the biggest bang for the buck are cams. But, if you have more to spend then go with cams and 103 kit.
Have you paid the HD tax yet (intake, exhaust, rejet/re-map)? Start there first. It'll help improve performance. That is definitely is going to be the best-bang for your buck. Of course, once you start down that path, it only leads to more mods.

That is true. I would look at Head Quarters for the big bore parts. Their web site is rudimentary but their forum has some good mechanics and good mechanical advice.

Keep in mind this will have to be done if you go with a hot street cam any way. Make these mods first, then ride it and see what you think. If you still want more get some beefy cams and have it dyno tuned, ride it. Big bore next, etc., etc.
P.S. check out nightrider.com for engine combos that will give you the numbers you want.

That was my next question In the Harley catalog it shows the 103"stage 2 at around 80HP... the 110" stage 2 at only like 90hp!!
But Zippers 103" Sleeper kit is showing dyno results at 90-95hp...i dont get it???
Is there that big of a difference in parts used?
The HD Stage II kit is pistons/cylinders, cams, and maybe pushrods (can't remember). There's more that goes into a good kit than that....HEADS! They can make or break a build- a *good* can run upwards of $1k. Head Quarters, GMR, T-Man, Hillside, JD's Cycleworks, etc. can all set you up with a great package deal- do it once, do it right......learn the mistakes of others- don't just try to piece it together. Call a builder and explain to them how you ride, what you ride, and how you want it to perform. They can set you up with a plan to meet YOUR goals.

Only difference in the Zipper 103" and HD stage 2 is the Zipper had pushrods.... neither has heads.
Price is bout the same for either, but one says 80hp other 95hp.....Maybe it will just be a mystery!! haha
