Default Question on gear shift linkage

2007 Night Train

Put on the black anodized slotted shift linkage (#34018-08). Much better quality than stock.

Just want to check that on the front foot lever where it attaches. From what I read of the instructions the front linkage goes on the inside of the lever. Thats how I mounted it. Seen pics where it was on the outside. Anyone know whats right?

Also I made the new linkage the same size as the old (little shorter, not much). The shifter seemed a little off once I got it back together. I did make the rear bolts tight (no tq wrench), and it did not seem to shift right (its loose when you move the linkage side to side). It looks like the linkage almost (or does) bottom out on the tranny going into first. It was raining so I did not get to test ride it. I did change gears when I tightened the rear linkage. The front foot lever moved freely and would have no effect on it that I can tell. Some thing with the tranny/rear shift area. Nutrual is hard to find now and a few times it would not go down into first/second gear when running in my driveway. Any ideas? Might this clear up when I ride it?

Thanks.

Inside on the front, outside on the rear.

Thanks. Saw some black engines with it mounted the otherway on the front, must have been older bikes.
