Exhaust options~expertise needed
Wanted to put the new SE Street Perfomance Slip-On Shotgun Mufflers (http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US)on my Fatboy Lo. Talked to a HD salesman who said that SE pipes are a waste of money (no power, crappy sound). IMOP they flow the best with the bike. I was going to scratch them but then I found Big City QQ Thunder baffles. I emailed them asking if they would work for these pipes, how loud are they, and what kind of numbers would I see. They told me that they couldn't help me unless I found out the diameters of the pipes (I dont want to buy them until I know they will work). Also they couldnt send me performance numbers because there are so many different bikes. So here are my questions:
1) Will they work? Anyone have this setup already or at least have the slip
ons so I can get the diameters?
2) Any ideas on performance numbers with the slip-ons and baffles?
3) Can I put everything on myself without having to worry about
re-calibrating my bike? Do I have to go with a stage one setup for slip-
ons?
4) All together (if I can put them on myself) the cost will be around 650, is it
worth it or should I look for something else?
Thanks in advance.

Man....650 seems like alot to me. I got a good deal on my Rush Slip-ons and have not had to do a stage one yet. I did have a PCIII along with a new A/C but took that off when a friend wanted to buy the PCIII...guess I have a big heart. But....if you just change the slip-ons than you will not need to do anything else to the bike. Check out the classifieds here for some slip-ons...that'll save you alot of money. Or just use ebay and craigslist. Personally I could not justify 650 for just slip-ons but maybe they had to do something different for the new bike...who knows.
Edit a little bit on here for ya...
Performance wise you really won't get any gains unless you get a new A/C along with a power commander, sert, TMAX or any other fuel management system like that. Mainly the slip-ons is a good cheap quick way to get rid of that quiet factory sound. Usually people get them with the 1.75 baffles but if you want them louder you can get them in 2.00 or 2.25 baffles...you will loose low end tq the bigger (in inches) your baffles get. Like I said most people here seem to run 1.75 because the sound is much better and you don't lose that much low end tq.

Don't know about those particular SE pipes but I don't think any of the newer SE pipes have removable baffles. You would need some pipes that you could pull the baffles out of if you were going to replace them with the Thunder Monsters. IMO, there are better looking mufflers out there that may do EXACTLY what you want without going the Thunder Monster route(not that there is anything wrong with them).
$650, way too much cash for a set of slip-ons and a set of baffles. If you want to stay with the stock pipe look, get some reinhart or rush slip ons, or just modify your stock mufflers and punch out the baffles (haven't done this for a while, but I used to do it to quite a few bikes back in the day).
Tried to knock some holes in the baffles of a buddies new Street Glide last month and discovered a fancy catalytic converter in the RH pipe. Don't know if all the new bikes have those but if they do, knocking a couple holes in them like we used to do is out of the question.

i am still wainting on rush they are working on the satin chrome slip on mufflers i like the factory look.. not to many company make slip om mufflers......i had rush slip on mufflers on my 2009 lowrider great sound good company......s.e. mufflers no sound and you can not change the baffles no more...
rush has black chrome slip ons now and you can order the baffle to suit your loudness factor. i has rush slip ons and pc3 and arlen ness big sucker and here are the dyno tune numbers
Mine went from 63.99 hp to 75.41 hp and 78.16 tq to 87.36 tq. I did rush slip ons and pc lll and big sucker. I had a dynotune done. canned maps are not close if you want smooth responce at any speed or throttle. From the post i have seem i would get another 2 to 3 hp if i changed the entire exhaust.
i use the stock hd heat shields and they fit on the rush
