Default 1996 Bad Boy Springer - Custom Paint or Not?

I have a 96 Springer Bad Boy and I was thinking of a custom paint job, but, was a little worried about ruining the value of what is otherwise a limited production model. According to numbers I have seen 1103 of these made in my color in 1996.

I was thinking the more expensive route would be buy replacement tins and paint those and save the originals, but, is it worth it.?

Does anyone think that the value of the bike will drop significantly if I paint it?
Is it worth it from a collectable standpoint to leave it alone?

Right now, I don't feel like selling it but who knows years down the road, I don't want to kick myself if I screw up the potential value of the bike.

It is my daily ride, but, well taken care of mechanically and garaged etc.

Anybody got any opinions on this???????

My opinion is that you already put custom exhaust and a custom front wheel on it. The idea of selling it to someone willing to pay top dollar for a "stocker" has sailed. Paint isn't going to drop the price any more than that. By the way, don't ever sell it. Just continue to make it yours and enjoy it. Bikes were made to be ridden, not collected.

I wouldn't paint it personally. If I were you I would never sell it, except to me.

The wheel and exhaust could be restored. I already replaced the S&S carb I had with a stock carb air cleaner combo. Engine is bored and a new cam and Crane ignition in it.( a few years back)
I don't want to totally ruin a classic, you know what I mean.? Turn it into just a blacked out Springer and all.
If I ever got rid of it I would miss it and probably kick myself in the *** looking for a Springer to replace it. I like fuel injection and 6 six speed trannies, but, I think I would add a bike before I got rid of this.
However, If a serious financial situation arises..........

Getting another set of tins is probably the best way to go. I was just kinda wanting a different look sometimes. I like the bike fine, just once in a while I get to thinking about some custom paintwork. That would be best best of both worlds, but, a little more money involved.

Get another set of tins and be done with it.. Seems to me as you have saved the other parts to put it back to original...

I would sell that bike to absolutely NO ONE if it were mine.. that bike is very hard to come by..

One side of me says "Get another set of tins", but the other side says "What would you do if you scratched the original paint or laid the bike down?" You'd get it repainted.

It's only paint, and can be repainted in the exact same factory colors at any time. Save the badges, and do whatever you want to with the paint job.
