Default Import 09 Rock C

I am looking at importing an 09 Rocker C into Canada but looking at the RIV.ca they say the rear brake ligth needs to be fix to meet the canadian standards (BS) my question- is there a difference betweeen the 08 & 09 model years of the Rocker tail light?
I have looked on the web and on Harley site to see but it looks the same and no where does it say a Canadian or US brake light issue????

appreciate the help.

I just brought an '08 Rocker C into Canada from Colorado. I too was concerned regarding the brake light issue. The signal lights are integrated into the brake light on the Rocker. So when you hit the brakes both signal lights illuminate. I assume it's the same with the '09 and '10 models. While the RIV site only singles those two years the '08 is no different so there I can't help you. After visiting the Harley Dealership in NL this week I observed the '10 Rocker C and it does have a Brake light on the Fender below the license plate. On it's American cousin there a silver oval mount, no light.
So the Canadian Bike has a dedicated Brake Light. On this point I was very concerned.
So here's how it works. The RIV inspection doesn't happen at the border, it's just a modification that has to be made with in like 60 days of the bike arriving. (you can make application once the bike arrives for an extension of time if you are looking at suitable options and don't want to rush). You take your Form 1 and Form 2 (RIV Paper work) to the inspection location. (In NL it was Canadian Tire) for a free no appointment necessary RIV inspection. I was done in 10 mins, no issues, didn't look at the brake lights, no issue with the odometer reading MPH with no abilty to have a kilometers conversion.( things I was nervous about) The mechanic was more concerned with matching the VIN on the frame with the one on the paperwork.
Here's the thing in all likelihood you are going to go with a side mount plate in the future. So if you get the bike order your Roto-Plate axle mount www.topdownproducts.com with the integrated tail light. If RIV flags your tail light for further inspection at the Canadian Inspection Site you install your Side Mount and Voila you have a tail light.
The guys doing the inspections are normal people who in my opinion love to see a nice bike, they are not Border Service guys who hate to see you spend large quid south of the border and Red Flag you.
This was long winded glad to offer any clarification of the process if you need it. If you are driving your bike across the border giver if not pay the Approx $400 for a Broker or Agent, they know there stuff and you just wait for the arrival.
cheers

Right on, thanxs for the info very helpful. Did you need to get a Federal inspection or just the Provincal or does Canadian tire do both? I imported my 05 Dodge and need both at 2 different places.

big difference in the US $$$ compared to local Rocker "C"

thanxs

Just the RIV at Canadian Tire. Do you have to go to CT as well?

I have 2 options here from what i see Canadian tire or a private company that i have used in the past but thats only a provincal for the RIV (federal) I went to a dealer and same as you they came out checked the VIN and DTL's & said WOW NICE TRUCK and was thats it.
so you speedo is totally miles? I had an 97 Heritage that was both.

thans again.

Yup, Speedo is only miles. Canadian Tire for the RIV inspection and that was the only one required here in NL. I would grab the bike and worry bout the rest later. Are you shipping it in or driving it across?
When I visited the dealer to buy a helmet they were pretty cross that I bought a bike from the USA!! First thing the guy jumped on was that the Speedo was in miles and that the RIV would require it to be in Kilometers. He said I would need a new Speedo that read kilometers, and once purchased it would have to be sent to Harley to be calibrated to read the actual odometer reading in kilometers not miles and that If I attached it to a drill to advance it to the correct mileage I would likely be charged with Fraud. He slammed me with this and I was schnazzled, so I called Crappy Tire and got talking to a great guy about the RIV inspection and odometer readings finally came up and he said RIV gives them a sticker to stick on the face of the odometer that ghost images the kilometers above the MPH actual gauge. Anyway he said they don't even apply them as they know people simple peel them off when they leave the lot.
Well man, get the Rock it's the Gear.

the rocker i am looking at is in Oregon so i will drive down and pick it up. The wife figures its a great time to shop :-0
I talked to HD today and asked for a recall clearance letter and the guy i spoke with was great BUT the girl who directed my call was a bit bitchy as i told her why i was calling ya know WHY DON'T YOU SHOP LOCAL bla bla the rockers there is $26k the 1 in Oregon is $16k so WTF is with that $10k difference.

I see your wife on the back of your bike & my wife is about the same build so thats alright as she will not be out to often with me anyways ;-)

Angry 2009 Rocker C Import

I just imported a 2009 Rocker C into Canada. Had my inspection at Canadian Tire and they flagged it as needing a tail light. I tried to do a custom job and put an aftermarket taillight on the bike (which I would remove afterwards), but they insist that I need an invoice from a Harley Davidson dealer specifying that I put the Canadian OEM Harley Taillight on the bike. (Which runs over 400 dollars). The Candian Tire workers are not the ones insisting, it is the RIV manager.

I am now looking for a used Canadian Taillight to put on, as I am not wanting to spend the full amount and then remove afterwards to put on the side plate, etc.... Unbelievable that they force you to put on a specific part number.

If anyone has one they want to sell, please email me at jodnim@sasktel.net and just a heads up to anyone importing a Rocker C.

I know some time has passed since this post however did you ever find an OEM tail light to close out this RIV inspection?
Let me know.
