Default Handlebar Question

I decided to put 16 inch apes on my Springer a few weeks ago. I paid a local indie shop to do the work while I went out of town. When I picked the bike up, the guy didn't run the wires internally even though I had told him that was what I wanted. To make a long story short, I am not happy. I am now finding out that my options are pretty limited because I have a Springer. It looks like I could order the Wild 1 Chubby Springer 16 inch apes, but my concern is that the cables won't fit. I spent a good bit of money to get the braided cables and looking at the specs, the Chubby bars have much more pull back than the ones I currently have. So here is my question.......Has anyone drilled 1 inch bars and done the internal wiring themselves on a set of bars that wasn't pre drilled? I am having a tough time finding pre drilled 1 inch bars, and I am guessing it's because it's just not a good idea to drill into a bar that thin?

I bought my gimps on my old bike that way. Used a drill press and it was a piece of cake. Ran them for 20,000 miles with no issues.

I drilled a set of 1" Flanders bars for my '96 Softail, ran the wire internal for over 60k miles never had a problem with the bars or wiring.
Just take your time and debur all sharp edges and double up on the shrink tubing were the wires exit the bars.
