OKAY, I NEED A RESPONSE... (puhlease)
Only then did I start having second thoughts. I should have stayed with my first instinct.
So, that's why I posted my question, I wanted to speak to someone that actually had done the mod. As far as purchasing, any of the items I have could be sold or exchanged.... so no big deal.
Thanks though,
Mark
Mark,
Seriously, DO NOT consider putting the 240 on you bike... I do have a solution... I will take the fender, swingarm, etc. off your hands and this way you do not have to worry about this anymore!!
Man,
Now that's Texan hospitality... Thanks, err, I'll think about it.
if I had to spend another 10 grand to go 240 I think I would just buy a Big Dog and get more of a bike for the money.Bigger engine, billet wheels, more rake, stretch and warranty
Seems to me that in this day of high brow builders and cookie cutter custom "factorys" its now difference that looks alike! The standard factory chop, though very nice and cool, is not really that unique anymore. So armed with that new insight, I weighed insurance prices, parts availability, people willing to work on them and cost. The Thunder Mountain bikes were selling at around $36 - $39K. Which is still $6K more than what I ended up putting in to mine. The $10K for the 240 conversion included billet wheel, matching billet pulley and brake disks, paint, belt, swingarm kit, lowering shocks, tire, plate mount and taillight, and belt guard.
As far a being a bar hopper, well we just got back from a 600 trip over the 4th and the bike is a daily driver to work at 100 miles a day.

First , would I do it again , in a heartbeat ,for the money it is one of the slickest things I have done to my bike, and it also garners the most attention from everyone, most common question is , did that come from the factory like that. I love it
Second, as far as handleing goes, mine is only offset 1" so after about 5 minutes it is not an issue, thats not to say I am now going to go and run like hell through the twisties , If I want to do that I will buy a crotch rocket , I am pretty much a cruiser and like that speed, but this thing will run like a scalded dog if need be.I have taken trips as much as 300 - 400 mile a day.It will run all day and still be a show bike,( putting it in a show tommorow)
After the install ,( which is really not that hard,as long as you are mechanically inclined , and if so can save yourself a whole bunch of cash ) , the only problem I had was to get the look I was after , I had to lower bike front and rear, Bike looked great , rode like shee-it , so to fix that problem I installed a Legend Air suspension , man what a differance, best of both , looks and ride , I also have a machined sissy bar /passenger seat that just clips on and off , so when my ole lady rides I just air it up a little more and I'm good to go
As mentioned above I also researched buying a Big Dog, Ironhorse ETC. and its true that I am getting close to what I could have bought one of those for , BUT , I would have take a step backwards in technology to the EVO instead of the TwinCam , live with the thing shaking and buzzing my **** off , and no where near the support, I can take my Harley to any Harley dealer in the world and have it worked on, except for the rear tire and wheel they will have any part I need in stock, and again as mentioned before ,My bike will get more attention because its a Custom Harley than a Big Dog ETC, because now they are everywhere and no big deal anymore, and last but not least I did this because i Love it and its a HARLEY.
You can spend a chit load of money if you have someone else do it all for you , mine would have been in the 12-14 k range, or save a lot if you can do most of it yourself,( I had the local Harley shop install the offset parts in my transmission for me ) the rear swing arm , wheel and tire (250 Avon Venom) ,rear fender and paint , front wheel and tire, transmission offset & labor ,High End Seat , rear seat and sissy bar , cost me around $ 7,500.00
I hope I have helped you or anyone else that is interested in doing the conversion, just dont come to my part of town, as I like all the attention on me and dont need the competition !!
